This lightning-fast vegan avocado crema recipe will have you devouring deliciousness in no time. In less than a blink of an eye, you can savor this airy, tasty vegan sauce with so many of your favorite dishes.
Avocado crema is a creamy and smooth sauce or condiment made with ripe avocados. It is similar to a traditional sour cream but with the added richness and flavor of avocados. While it’s one of my favorite Vegan Game Day Dips and Sauces, it’s also perfect for tacos, bowls, sandwiches, or anytime you need a deliciously versatile condiment!
It may sound fancy, but it's incredibly easy to make plant-based. This is another great 5 in 5 sauce (plus a sprinkle of salt and pepper) - just five ingredients in five minutes to a delicious plant-based sauce!
If you like making sauces and dressings at home as much as I do, I have a quick and easy method you can learn in How to Make Homemade Vegan Sauces.

Ingredient Notes
- Hass Avocado: Turns out, I’ve been saying Hass avocado wrong for years—rhyming it with boss instead of class! So, apparently, I’ve been the “boss” of mispronunciations all this time. Anyway, look for ripe avocados that, when pressed, give in slightly and have dark skin. Avoid mushy avocados, but slightly overripe ones work well since they’ll be blended.
- Cilantro: If you hate cilantro, substitute with the next best thing - parsley!
- Vegan Yogurt: Substitute the vegan yogurt with vegan sour cream, but keep in mind that the yogurt adds a delicious airiness.
How To Make Vegan Avocado Crema
Add a Hass avocado, a squeeze of lime juice, some yogurt, a sprinkle of cilantro, a dash of garlic, and some salt and pepper into a blender, food processor, or bullet, give it a whirl, and voila! That's it!
Top Tips
- You can add a teaspoon of olive oil if you want to get an extra smooth texture. Blend everything until smooth and creamy.
- If you want to take your avocado crema to the next level, add some jalapeños or serrano peppers for an extra kick.
- Adjust the amount of garlic based on your preference and the size of your cloves.

Storage
Transfer the avocado crema to an airtight container to limit its exposure to air, which helps prevent browning. For extra protection, press a piece of plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the crema before sealing the container. This reduces oxidation, keeping the crema green and fresh.
Store the crema in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. It may still brown slightly, but giving it a stir will help mix everything back to its creamy green state.
FAQS
While avocado crema is best enjoyed fresh, you can prepare it a few hours ahead. To prevent browning, place plastic wrap directly on the surface of the salsa to minimize contact with air. Store it in the refrigerator until ready to serve. Before serving, give it a gentle stir to mix the flavors. I put enough lime juice in this dip to ensure it doesn't brown for a while!
Avocado crema is best consumed immediately after preparing to enjoy its freshness.
I do not recommend freezing avocado crema, as the texture and consistency will be altered once thawed. It is best enjoyed fresh or refrigerated for a very short period.
Avocado crema can be used as a substitute for sour cream in many recipes. Its creamy texture and tangy flavor make it a great alternative. It works well as a topping for tacos, baked potatoes or as a dip for chips.
