Gingerbread Popcorn Seasoning

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar or coconut sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Prepare popcorn: Air pop your popcorn.
  • Prepare seasoning: Combine the ingredients for the seasoning in a small bowl.
  • Combine: In a large bowl, add half of the popped popcorn and lightly mist with oil. Add the remaining popcorn, spray again, and toss to coat. While the popcorn is still warm, sprinkle on the seasoning and mix well. If you notice seasoning collecting at the bottom, give it another light mist of oil and toss again until most of that flavor clings.
Note: For lemon and lime seasonings, drizzle the popcorn with lime and lemon juice before adding the seasoning—this helps it stick like a citrusy glue.

Notes

Consider using Flavacol for your popcorn. Flavacol is ultra-fine salt, so it sticks beautifully to popcorn and delivers a classic salty, buttery movie theater flavor. Note, this will add a buttery flavor to the popcorn.
Consider pulsing the ingredients (especially the ones with chunkier herbs like oregano and dill) in a spice grinder for a finer texture that sticks to the popcorn more evenly.
Season while it’s warm. Popcorn holds onto flavor best when it’s still hot and slightly steamy.
